About Chess Weekend

Chess Weekend was formed in 2005 over dinner by Glenn Panner and Tim Just. We came to the conclusion that what was missing from weekend tournaments was … a more complete and fun experience for players to remember!

To us, being barricaded in a hotel basement for 48 hours at a time wasn’t enough, so we created the types of events we want to be a part of and that we think most players would enjoy. We took pride in knowing that our rounds would start on time, the playing rooms would be clean and well-lit, tournament directors would be competent and easy to find, equipment would be provided (sometimes even clocks), and the games would end at a reasonable hour so players could have dinner with friends or explore the town. Our tournaments are not just about playing the chess games, but about the player’s comfort and total experience.

While based in the Chicago area, Chess Weekend has held events across the country such as Minnesota, California, and Atlantic City New Jersey. We plan to expand and bring our high-quality events all over the country (sneak preview: Omaha, Seattle, and Arizona are next up). Please join us at one of upcoming events, and see for yourself what sets our tournaments apart.
