5 round Swiss, open to 4 player teams with one optional alternate.

Two sections: Open and Reserve. 
Team average (4 highest ratings – January 2022 Rating List) must be

  • under 2200 for Open

  • under 1600 for Reserve

An entire team may take up to two byes in any rounds; byes must be requested by end of round 2 and are irrevocable after the end of round 2.

Time Controls

Game/90 +30 sec increment from move 1. Rounds 1 and 2 in the 2-day schedule play Game/60, d5.

Entry Fees

  • $180 per team USPS or online by 6pm on Feb. 6

  • $200 per team USPS or online by 6pm on Feb. 13

  • $220 per team online until 9:30am Feb. 18 and onsite.

Team changes onsite or after 6pm on Feb. 18, $20.

Individuals

…wishing to play, send $50 by USPS or online by 6pm on Feb. 13 or $60 thereafter, and request to be put on a team. Note: we can guarantee you will play, but can’t guarantee which schedule or the ratings of your team. Teams are formed the day of the event.

Schedule

  • 3-DAY: onsite registration/check-in Friday, Feb. 18, 5:30pm-6:30pm; Round 1, 7pm. Saturday, Feb. 19, Round 2 10am; Round 3, 4pm. Sunday, Feb. 20, Round 4, 10am; Round 5, 3:30pm.

  • 2-DAY: onsite registration/check-in Saturday, Feb. 19, 8am-9:30am; Round 1, 10am; Round 2, 1pm then merge with 3-day schedule in Round 3.

Northern Blitz Championship

$600 guaranteed. 5-round double Swiss (two games with each opponent) Game/3, 2-second increment. US Chess- and FIDE-rated. Will be held Saturday night at 8 p.m. or after USAT Round 3 (which begins at 4pm).  More information and registration here.

Masks will be required; however, state, local, and hotel health rules are subject to change, and we will post changes on this page and at our registration page. Currently, Cook County requires proof of vaccination (copy or photo of the vaccine card) to attend this tournament.

Proof of vaccination: if you did not submit a copy of your proof of vaccination through online registration, you may upload a photo or scan of it to https://www.kingregistration.com/support/vaccinecard where it will be linked to your US Chess ID number. You may also bring proof of vaccination with you to the tournament. Any spectators, coaches or parents who wish to enter the tournament room must also show proof of vaccination.

When you arrive at the tournament, go to “tournament registration” to pick up a wristband that will allow you access to the playing room.
